WASHINGTON — A senior U.S. military official said the U.S. government has approved a draft agreement on reducing the American military presence in Iraq. The official said the deal is not final and is subject to acceptance by Iraqi leaders. The official said that barring any Iraqi objections that would require a reopening of negotiations, the agreement meets U.S. objectives. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not yet been announced, said it includes an American demand that the United States retains exclusive legal jurisdiction over its troops in Iraq. Also worked out by negotiators is a companion agreement known as a strategic framework agreement. (Read the full post about ‘US Approves Deal Reducing Forces In Iraq’…)

MILWAUKEE — Police in Wisconsin said a woman celebrated her birthday by helping her teenage son rob two gas stations. Officers in the Milwaukee suburb of Greenfield said the 37-year-old woman acted as the getaway driver while her 17-year-old son robbed the stations at gunpoint. Authorities said the pair were in custody Wednesday awaiting charges. Their names were not released. Police said the teen was visiting from Chicago for his mother’s birthday. And they said the woman’s 13-month-old daughter and two boys — ages 10 and 14 — rode along during the robberies in Greenfield and Milwaukee. There are plenty of groups out there who are giving money to the campaign to say no to constitutional change this fall.
The state’s largest teachers union, the Connecticut Education Association, has contributed $40,000 to the group “Vote No: Protect Our Constitution.” Planned Parenthood of Connecticut has given $5,000 to the same cause, according to filings with the State Elections Enforcement Commission.
The Connecticut Constitution Convention Campaign has raised $1,110.
I’ve been disappointed with the campaign for constitutional change.

Jim Amann may be a lot of things, but at least he’s direct. And he is definitely not stepping aside to let Dan Malloy run:
“I supported Dan last time, but that was then, this is now,” Amann said. “As far as I’m concerned, he’s a good guy, but he lost to DeStefano. . . . That stigma of losing is on him.”
Amann said Stamford property owners saw an average 10 percent property tax increase this year - a move Malloy blamed in part on a lack of funds from the legislature.
“He better worry about his re-election for mayor,” Amann said. (Lockhart)
Amann is also pretty sure that Richard Blumenthal won’t run.
