Amann Not Scared of Malloy
Jim Amann may be a lot of things, but at least he’s direct. And he is definitely not stepping aside to let Dan Malloy run:
“I supported Dan last time, but that was then, this is now,” Amann said. “As far as I’m concerned, he’s a good guy, but he lost to DeStefano. . . . That stigma of losing is on him.”Amann said Stamford property owners saw an average 10 percent property tax increase this year - a move Malloy blamed in part on a lack of funds from the legislature.
“He better worry about his re-election for mayor,” Amann said. (Lockhart)
Amann is also pretty sure that Richard Blumenthal won’t run. That’s not a bad bet to take. Malloy said of Blumenthal:
“If Dick Blumenthal runs, he’ll be the Democratic nominee and I’ll plan on supporting him,” Malloy said Monday. “If Dick doesn’t run, who’s the nominee going to be? And under those circumstances, I certainly want it to be me.” (Lockhart)
So if we assume Blumenthal does decide not to run (right now he’s saying he’s “open to future challenges” but otherwise is busy being attorney general) then we’d probably be looking at an Amann-Malloy primary, with the possibility of a lot of other challengers getting in the mix.
And then, of course, there’s Gov. Rell, who is forming a re-election exploratory committee. How her actions will figure into Democrats’ calculations is still unknown.
