Mayer Explains Breakup With Aniston
NEW YORK — John Mayer is standing up for the boring breakup.
Mayer told celebrity Web site TMZ.com and others that he split with actress Jennifer Aniston because they were different, not because anybody cheated or lied or anything like that.
“Jennifer Aniston is the smartest, most sophisticated person I think I’ve ever met,” Mayer said.
The singer-songwriter said that he ended the relationship because he didn’t want to waste anyone’s time and he doesn’t believe in lying. 
“You’re either a cheater, or you break up, and I’m not the first,” Mayer said. “I’m the second one.”
Mayer apologized for not having a more interesting breakup and he doesn’t want Aniston to get trashed by the press because he believes she’s one of the loveliest people he’s ever met.
